BROWNFIELD, Texas – February 17, 2022 – A pioneer in Texas wine, Reddy Vineyards is pleased to announce Founder and Proprietor Dr. Vijay Reddy as the recipient of the John E. Crosby, Jr. Award. Awarded by the Texas Wine & Grape Growers Association (TWGGA), the honor is given in recognition of lifetime achievement in the Texas wine and grape industry.
Fifth generation farmer, Dr. Vijay Reddy planted Reddy Vineyards in the Texas High Plains AVA in 1997. Dr. Reddy came to the U.S. from South India in 1971 to pursue a graduate degree in soil and plant science at Kansas State University. He went on to obtain a doctorate in 1975 at Colorado State University, expanding his vast expertise in both soil chemistry and farming. His dedication to elevating the lands of West Texas led to a gold medal-winning Cabernet Sauvignon with his first grapevine planting.
“Dr. Reddy is recognized with this lifetime achievement award for his dedication and resilience that only a true farmer demonstrates,” said Roxanne Myers, president of TWGGA. “Wine grapes are unlike other crops and it takes vintage after vintage to get it right. And Dr. Reddy has gotten it right. Congratulations for this well-deserved honor.” Dr. Reddy received the award at the TWGGA Trellis to Table 2022 Annual Conference & Trade Show keynote speaker and awards luncheon in Denton, Texas, on February 17.
Reddy’s passion for the vineyard has led to a lifetime pursuit of perfecting and cultivating wine grapes, and in 2022 Dr. Reddy celebrates 25 years of growing premium grapes. Reddy Vineyards produces 38 varieties on a 400 acre vineyard that also encompasses the renowned innovative circular vineyard block. Texas wineries have sourced grapes for decades from Reddy Vineyards, making it the most diverse vineyard in Texas.
