The Best Summer Cookout Wine Pairings

By: Katy Anderson, Contributing Author

Whether you’re gearing up for the 4th of July, or taking advantage of the warmer weather, we’ve got a wine pairing for you! Trust our award-winning labels, grown, produced, and bottled on site at the family’s vineyard in the Texas High Plains AVA. With scores in the 90’s, each wine is sure to impress your friends at the next summer cookout.

Burgers and Hot Dogs- TNT Tempranillo Red Blend

While most may reach for a beer while they grill, try celebrating the 4th with the same drink as the Founding Fathers – wine! The classic combo of burgers and hot dogs pairs wonderfully with our full-bodied 2019 TNT Red Blend ($40). The silky and rich blend of Tempranillo and Touriga Nacional will compliment robust flavors. This label recently won a Gold Medal but if you’re looking for something a bit more exclusive, try our 2017 TNT Red Blend, available to Wine Club Members only.

Fried Chicken and Pasta Salad- 2021 Petals and Clay Sauvignon Blanc

White wine and chicken are a classic pairing. However, the crisp finish of Reddy Vineyards’ newest release, 2021 Petals and Clay Sauvignon Blanc ($20), pairs expertly with crispy fried chicken. You can also add a pasta salad, that will be a hit thanks to Petals and Clay’s notes of honeydew, melon, and pineapple.

Summer Salad and Grilled Shrimp- 2019 Signature Dy Rosé

Rosé is always a great idea for a hot summer day. The high acidity stands up wonderfully with grilled foods such as shrimp and veggie kabobs. Sticking to the lighter side, pair your grilled seafood with a fresh quinoa or berry salad. The 2019 Signature Dy Rosé ($20), offers flavors of strawberry, raspberry, cherry, and succulent red apple that is perfect for grilling by the pool!

Potato Salad and Grilled Veggies- 2019 VMR White Blend

No cookout is complete without classic side dishes. The award-winning blend of Viognier, Roussanne, and Marsanne, expertly pairs with a wide variety of sides with a long, satisfying finish. The versatile wine is perfect with potato salad and won’t fill you up. The richness of the 2019 VMR White Blend ($20), will also mingle perfectly on the palate with that classic “grilled” flavor on anything such as grilled zucchini, asparagus, eggplant, or carrots.

Chocolate Chip Cookies and Berry Pie- 2019 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

From low-key backyard barbeques to summer soirees, there must be something to soothe everyone’s sweet tooth. Reach for a bottle of the luxurious, 2019 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon ($75), which recently won Best Texas Cabernet Sauvignon and received a 93 point score for SOMM Journal. From chocolate chip cookies to a fresh berry pie, the concentrated flavors of black cherry, cassis, and blackberry create a smooth and long finish.
